I've been chastised enough in my life over my biting sarcasm, and self-chastised enough when I saw that I hurt someone with my words when I never intended to: "Can't you take a joke?" And I'm sure it didn't help my failed marriages either; sarcasm can be a defense against speaking honestly, hiding behind "funny" comments, rather than speaking the truth.

Relative to using our talents, I found many a time that doing what I wanted to do --- even very good and charitable things --- often got disrupted by others asking me to do something else, usually to assume some other responsibility than the one I wanted. And usually involving leading some charitable function or organization and not doing the one-on-one work with those in need --- the work that felt so good to do. One of the things I've learned is to be open to calls to do more, even if it is not something I want to do. Using the talents God gave us often is not doing what we want, but doing what He made us to do. And sometimes its hard to be that humble, accepting that leadership role everyone else thinks is so grand, but you wish you didn't have to do.

And sometimes, these days, when it seems there are so many more pleasant things to do, when writing a blog you feel compelled to write is a trial, and you always wonder: "Lord, is this what you'd have me do?" And you wonder of the benefit of doing this thing, which He seems to call you to do.

And you try not to be anxious.Do Not Be Anxioushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04607616214486933423noreply@blogger.com
